That saying about how The Prevention of a Problem, is Far Better Than The Remedy, definitely holds true in terms of Adware, Spyware and Malware Infections.

One major reason for this, is that even after the system has been cleaned and repaired, it’s still possible that private and highly sensitive information was leaked while the system was infected and vulnerable.

For more information about potential problems that can arise from this, including Identity Theft, see this article on The Dangers of Adware and Spyware .

Unfortunately, preventing Adware, Spyware and other Malware infections is easier said than done, with the large number of advanced threats we face online today.

However, if the proper precautions are taken, you can greatly reduce the odds of ever becoming infected.

The things that must be done, to keep your machine running clean and malware free, can be broken down into two Groups.

Group 1 is – Things You Need To Do (or NOT do).
Group 2 is – Things You Need To Have (Installed on Your Machine).

Things You Need To Do:

  • The Software That You Need to Have – KEEP IT UP TO DATE! (if your antivirus, antispyware, antimalware, etc, software isn’t up to date, then it won’t do you much good as new threats are coming out constantly, and you will need to the latest updates to stay protected)
  • Be Download e-mail attachments from people that you don’t know
  • Don’t download pirated software, games, movies, etc (these files are malware landmines).
  • If you’re running windows, turn Automatic Updates on and be sure to install the critical updates.

Things You Need To Have:

  • A Good Firewall – We recommend – Comodo. It’s Free.

This is not an exhaustive list of what you must do to be safe, and there is no guarantee that following these guidelines will keep your computer free of infection. These are simply a set of general guidelines, but you’re odds of staying spyware, adware, malware and virus free, should greatly improve by following these suggestions.
